For the interviews with the target audience, I did a small interview with them to get more information than I could gather with the survey.

Ellis, 29

Hakan, 26

Maria, 64

Gilian, 25

Aafje, 55

  1. What do you prefer, physical or digital books?

Ellis: I prefer physical books, but digital books are handy for when you want to read on the go. Also, there is the option to just download ebooks. But usually, I just read physical books in bed.

Hakan: I mostly read ebooks, there isn't much space to keep books where I live. It’s easier if you suddenly decide you want to read, just unlock your phone and start reading.

Maria: I prefer physical, but with the limited selection of books here, I needed to get a kindle to be able to read what I want. When they don’t have what I want to read I asked one of my children (you mostly) to get them for me and mail them here, which is double the cost.

Gilian: I don’t read that often. But when I do it’s usually on the go. So being able to read on my phone is always a plus.

Aafje: I only read physical books. Digital books aren't for me. They don’t have the same feeling. I love the smell of a good book that can’t be replicated with an ebook. I do like that digital reading is more portable.

  1. What makes the experience of digital books less pleasant than physical books?

Ellis: For me, it’s very much a nostalgic feeling. The feeling of a book also just adds to the comfort.

Hakan: A downside with reading on devices is that they run out of battery. Then suddenly you can’t do anything on your device anymore. Unless it’s an e-reader, but I don’t own one of those.
